“Wow.”
“Retreat.”
“Go back.”
“Go inward.”
“Escape.”
These thoughts pervade our minds during these days of history making Covid 19. All of the outer
turmoil kind of makes us want to crawl in our shells, right? But there is some good news. Many of us
have been hiding in our shells for a long time anyway. We like it in there. It is familiar. It feels safe.
Interestingly, while the outside world may see a quiet and calm person (a nice seashell), that solid
person sometimes has a raging storm within. You can almost hear it. It is a storm of thoughts and
emotions that cannot always be constrained. Sometimes the thoughts and feelings slip out of the tough
exterior and land on a piece of paper in a scrappy notebook. What escapes the shell is the actual person
-authentic and vulnerable.
Let us care for those brave enough to bear their unarmed souls unto paper. Let us cherish their words as
if they were our own. For when it is time, we all leave this shell behind sooner or later.

With Love Always,
Dr. Kare
